Listen to What They Have to Say!
My name is Joe and I graduated Accounting at Schulich School of Business. I took grade 12 Advanced Functions as well as Calculus and Vectors with Dr. Georgescu. I learned so much being her student, as she both challenged her class with complex questions, and taught us all the fundamentals so we could best solve them. Her passion for mathematics motivated me to try my best and keep trying, even when the subjects became challenging. She taught us mathematics through challenging questions and real-life practice examples. I will never forget those math classes and the great times we had in Dr. Georgescu’s class. She always took the time to solve the most difficult questions with us, which is how I learned the material and was able to excel in her class. Her consistent approach to solving different types of problems made it much easier to understand the logic behind the various solutions. She was a great teacher, and I would highly recommend taking any class with her.

I am a 4th year civil engineering student at University of Toronto. I never thought that I would have considered a math-related career. My interest in math sprouted and grew throughout my high school years. I had Dr. Georgescu as my math teacher for the enriched math program from grade 9 to 12. Her teaching methods helped me to develop a strong foundation to approach/solve any problem (even non-math related ones). However, it was her passion for her students to learn that inspired me to get into a math-related program. She was able to simplify very complex concepts and make them easy for students to understand. In addition, the math problems she would assign were applicable to the real-world. This was my favorite part of her teaching, and what taught me the basics for civil engineering. The level of difficulty of math homework assigned ensured we properly practiced and applied the math concepts. We were always well prepared for all examinations.
Dr. Georgescu is definitely an amazing math teacher. She has the organization, the knowledge, the patience, the ease but most importantly the passion to make ANY student actually enjoy doing math!

In the spring of 2014, I was fortunate enough to be assigned to Dr. Corina Georgescu’s mathematics classroom for my final teaching block of my teacher training program. I have since graduated, moved to the UK, and am currently enjoying my second year of teaching in London. During my time with Dr. Georgescu, I learned many valuable lessons concerning teaching, and am truly grateful for her guidance, support, and willingness to help. Said qualities were not only demonstrated towards me, but also towards each and every student that Dr. Georgescu interacted with daily.
In my opinion, the most important qualities in a teacher are passion, the ability and willingness to challenge students, and patience. I believe this to be of even higher importance when considering a subject like math, which is regarded by many as extremely difficult. Dr. Georgescu not only possesses these qualities, but demonstrates them in her lessons daily. Her passion for math was evident in each and every one of her lessons. She worked to make the content relatable and relevant to her students, which is a very difficult task when teaching mathematics. Dr. Georgescu also has an impressive ability to challenge her students. When interacting with her students, Dr. Georgescu is constantly pushing them further with their studies. This is extremely important for math students because when the challenge is gone, students become complacent and fall behind. Dr. Georgescu’s knowledge concerning how and when to push her students further was impressive and was probably the most significant lesson I took from her as a teacher in training. Of all the things that I am grateful to Dr. Georgescu for, I am most thankful for her patience. When I began my placement teaching with her, I had never before led a secondary school math class. I was nervous and apprehensive, but Dr. Georgescu treated me with kindness and patience. By the end of the teaching block I was comfortable, confident and happy to be leading classrooms of various ability levels. In addition to experiencing said patience and kindness, I also observed the same qualities in her interactions with students.
Working with Dr. Georgescu was an excellent experience. I am grateful for all of the lessons that I learned from her, and all of the lessons I was able to watch her give to her students. She is definitely among the best math teachers I have encountered, and would recommend her to students of all levels who are seeking to improve their math skills.

I am an occasional teacher with the Toronto District School Board, seeking a position as a Secondary Mathematics Teacher. Dr. Georgescu was my Mentor Teacher, when I attended York University’s Faculty of Education program as a Teacher Candidate. She welcomed me into her classroom last school year to experience teaching various courses, such as Grade 9 Applied Mathematics, Grade 11 University Functions, and Grade 12 University Advanced Functions.
Dr. Georgescu demonstrates such great passion in her teaching of mathematics to inspire students to enjoy learning. She challenges her students with complex application questions and real-life examples to offer a different perspective of where mathematics can been seen in the world. In each lesson, she presents various activities, requiring the use of mathematics manipulatives or the integration of technology. She incorporated a vast amount of technology into her lessons, such as the Smart Board, iPads, and online graphing software, to provide students with an alternative approach to visualizing a problem.
Dr. Georgescu provides coherent explanations of mathematics concepts and recognizes how to make the content relevant and accessible for students. She uses a variety of instructional, evaluation, and assessment strategies, provides descriptive feedback. She engages students to work individually and with peers in small groups in order to collaborate different ideas and approaches to the solutions of mathematics problems.

My name is Dr.Warden Egodawatte and I am an adjunct professor in Ryerson University and Seneca College, teaching mathematics and statistics. Dr.Georgescu is known to me for many years and we first met at the University of Toronto. We did our master’s and PhD programs together. During this time, Dr. Georgescu was always an enthusiastic member in our group work and her presentations were lively with intellectual discussions. They showed her deep understanding of mathematics and teaching of the subject as well. I had the rare opportunity to present with her in mathematics conferences and she was always very well-prepared not only for the presentation but also for later discussions. We also conducted research together and in my opinion, her PhD dissertation topic on using technology in teaching mathematics shows her deep understanding of the subject and how it should be taught.
I visited her classrooms many times during my research work and I understood that she was really a caring, clever, enthusiastic, dedicated, and a hard-working teacher. From my experience about her teaching, I can assure that she has a great potential to run a successful math program that will help young students build a strong foundation and conceptual understanding in mathematics and to develop high level thinking and problem solving skills in them. I encourage parents to enroll their children in Dr.Georgescu’s mathematics program and to invest in their children’s mathematics education without any hesitation. Finally, as a university professor, I highly recommend her mathematics program and I have no doubt that she has the ability to conduct the program for students to get the maximum benefit.
